This section discusses how to create Goal Templates. Once created, Goal Templates can be implemented into program setup in the Manage section.
It is possible to automate the creation of Goals for repetitious programs. Some programs require the exact same Goals, and the creation of these Goals must be replicated when creating the programs—which can make program creation tedious and time-consuming.
The Automated Provisioning feature saves time by eliminating the need to manually configure Goals (as well as Services/Service Items, Documents, and Chart Fields) when setting up such programs. Click here for more information on Automated Provisioning.
Note: You must first set up the Goals before applying Automatic Provisioning. This process is described below in this article.
Accessing Goal Templates
To create or modify a Goal Template, click the Launcher Icon and select Setup. In the Setup area, click the Templates tab, and select Goal Templates in the right sidebar. This will take you to the Goal Templates page, where you can create or modify a Goal Template.
Creating New Goal Templates
Once in the Goal Templates screen, select the Add New Goal link located at the top right corner of the center screen. This will take you to the Create A New Goal Template screen. Enter the name and description of the goal.
Finally, label the Goal Template as Active or Inactive. An Active Goal Template is accessible when creating a Program in Manage > Programs. An Inactive Goal Template is not accessible, but can be changed to Active at any time.
Select Add record to create the Goal Template.
Once you select Add record you can now create measures for the new goal by selecting the Add measure link.
Creating Goal Measures
When you select Add measure, a popup box will appear prompting you to enter the Goal Typeand/or the Field.
The goal Type field shown below refers to whether the goal will have Demographic-basedmeasures, Service-based measures, and/or Time-based measures.
A goal can have only one of these parameters or it can have a combination of all of them, depending on the characteristics of the goal.
Demographics-Based
A Demographic-based measure is one that uses demographic parameters. For example, a certain goal may be intended only for persons who are unemployed (e.g. gain employment).
Once you select Demographic, enter the field name into the Field box. Notice that when you enter the demographic field name, a menu will drop down. Select the appropriate field.
Once Add record has been selected, you can apply further modifications to the measure, which is now labeled M1. Here you select whether Gender must be:
- Equal to
- Not equal to
- Greater than/Less than (not applicable in this example)
Next, you must select the demographic parameter. In the example below, Gender must equal Female.
Notice that the all selections in the dropdown menu above pertain to gender. These selections are dependent upon the type of Field that is selected.
Services-Based
Select a Service-based measure if the goal involves receiving a particular service (e.g. receiving mental health treatment or substance abuse counseling).
Note: You do not have to enter a Field for this measure type.
After selecting a Service-based goal, you will be prompted to enter a category (e.g. [APR] Mental Health, [APR] Housing, etc.).
In the screenshot above, the goal Mental Health requires services from the Mental Health category.
Time-Based
Select a Time-based measure if the goal must be completed within a specified time period (e.g. a client must receive substance abuse treatment within one month of enrollment).
Note: You do not have to enter a Field for this measure type.
After selecting Add record, enter the time frame (in days) that the goal must be met. In the example below, the goal must be met within 30 days of enrollment.
As mentioned above, numerous measures can be applied to one goal. The goal in the screenshot below will require clients with a long term mental health problem (Demographic-based measure) to receive Mental Health Services from the [APR] Mental Health (Service-based measure) category within 30 days (Time-based measure) of enrollment.
Working With the Measure Rule Area
Once measures are created, the user has the ability to configure logic which determines how the elements are calculated in relationship with each other in the Measure Rule area.
Between each Measure, exists an and/or drop-down menu which allows the user to select how the Measures are compared. Fields are also available to the left and right of each measure allowing the user to create sets of Measures by adding parenthesis.
In the example below, M1 and M2 are grouped together in a set using and logic, and combined with M3 using or logic. Essentially, (M1 or M2) or M3
