Live markers reference information already present in the client record and can be used to create display constraints, calculations, eligibility requirements, and set up tracked characteristics. This prevents the need to enter data multiple times in these situations. For example the Children live marker can be used to automatically calculate the number of children in the household based on Household Members and Date of Birth information. That live marker can then be used as a Display Constraint for another field in the screen, if it should only display for households of a certain size.
Live markers cannot be created or edited by system administrators. Live markers can be viewed in Field Editor by searching for fields with the “Live Marker” filter (figure 1).
Note: live markers are intended to be used in the logic for other fields and do not display in screens in the user interface. The exception is live markers that contain a calculation, which can be made to display, if desired, following the steps in “Live Markers with Calculations” below.
A full list of live markers, including a description of the information they display, is also available in the Live Marker Glossary.
Adding Live Markers to Screens
Navigate to the Field Library in Screen Editor and search for the live marker either by its name and clicking “Add” (figure 2).
The live marker will display in the Screen Editor and can now be used to create display constraints, calculations, eligibility requirements, and tracked characteristics.
Live Markers with Calculations
Live Markers that include a calculation are indicated with an asterisk (*) above. In order to display these live markers in a screen, an additional field with a Type of “Dollar” should be added to the screen (figure 3).
Once the field is added to the screen, click the edit icon (figure 4).
Rename the field to the name of the Live Marker and toggle on Read Only (figure 5).
Next, click “Add Calculation” (figure 6).
Add a calculation (any action type will work) with Based on Field set as the applicable Live Marker (figure 7).
Save the calculation, field changes, and publish the assessment. The live marker will now display in the assessment (figure 8).
